Endometriosis
If you’ve ever crawled to the bathroom in pain while on your period, you may have endometriosis.
If you’ve ever passed out in class from pain while on your period, you may have endometriosis.
If you’ve ever thrown up from pain while on your period, you may have endometriosis.
If you’ve tried to get pregnant but can’t and your tubes aren’t blocked and the doctors can’t find the issue, you may have endometriosis.
Endometriosis is an often painful condition wherein tissue resembling the lining of the uterus begins growing in the abdominal cavity. According to Johns Hopkins, it can be found in 2-10 percent of American menstruating women. It has also been cited as one of the leading causes of infertility, with up to 50% of women who struggle with infertility receiving an endo diagnosis.
The most common symptom of endometriosis is chronic pelvic pain, but symptoms can also include:
- Infertility
- Urinary urgency and frequency
- Urinary incontinence/retention
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Vulvodynia
- Dyspareunia
- Coccydynia
- Fatigue
- Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (often felt as spasming & pain in pelvic muscles)
Treatment at Lokahi Physical Therapy & Wellness can help treat these symptoms by relaxing the pelvic muscles, breaking up adhesions, and encouraging scar tissue to work with your organs, not against them.
Our modalities can ease pain, relieve bladder and bowel discomfort, and make intercourse less painful. As one client put it:
“I feel like someone opened a door down there!”
